Forums and noticeboards for intranet

New staff discussion forum and classified advert noticeboards for Cambridge University Hospitals staff intranet.

The staff forum has provided a lively place for discussion, ranting and some bizarre conversation to take place for several years.

The hospital intranet sits on a content management system that is antiquated and really not fit for purpose. The forum functionality was a good example of this, so I was asked to create a new forum using Drupal.

This piece of work represents some of my most advance Drupal work to date. The requirements were pretty straightforward to begin with, but as the possibilities that Drupal offered became clear the requirements list got longer and more complex.

It became quickly apparent that Drupal’s own forum module was not up to the job so I started from scratch using Views, taxonomies and a clever module called taxonomy Views Integrator. Many other modules were used to create ‘like this post’ functions, reporting, security, email validation and much more behind the scenes.

The forums and noticeboards have almost 500 registered users  and it receives many thousand visits each day.
